Student Life at University of Cologne

Most students in Germany either live in a hall of residence or rent an apartment. A popular option is to share a flat with other students.
Student dorms are run by the local student services organisation (Studentenwerk). Rents depend on the type of room (dorm room, shared flat, apartment) and amount between 190 to 480 Euros per month in Cologne. Total costs of living in the Bonn/Cologne area amount to approximately 800 EUR per month.
There are no tuition fees at the universities of Bonn and Cologne. The enrolment fees, which are due at the beginning of every term, amounting to a total of about 550 EUR per year. In return, students receive free public transport in North-Rhine Westphalia and can participate in their university's sports societies

The student service organisation in Cologne (Kölner Studierendenwerk, KStW) is a first point of contact for questions about student life, be it for housing, (financial) advice or the daily lunch.
