Student Life at University of Bonn
This page guides you to any external links that you as a student may need to help you with your student life.
Most students in Germany either live in a hall of residence or rent an apartment. A popular option is to share a flat with other students, more information via this page (AStA).
Student dorms are run by the local student services organisation (Studierendenwerk). Rent depends on the type of the dormatory (shared or single) but the prices currently range between 215 to 780 Euros. The rents include all incidental costs such as electricity and heating as well as broadband Internet access - with the exception of family flats. Total costs of living in the Bonn area amount to approximately 800 EUR per month.
There are no tuition fees at the universities of Bonn and Cologne. The enrolment fees, which are due at the beginning of every term, amounting to a total of about 550 EUR per year. In return, students receive free public transport in North-Rhine Westphalia and can participate in their university's sports societies. Health insurance and other social benefits come automatically with employment as teaching assistant (PhD and MSc Students). The costs are deducted from the gross salary.
