M. Sc. studies

M. Sc. studies in Physics and Astrophysics

The M. Sc. programs provide a thorough research-oriented scientific education. The aim is to equip students with advanced scientific tools and the experience to apply them with independence, responsibility, and reflection. The two-year M. Sc. courses are modularly structured and comprise lecture and lab courses and thesis work. The language of instruction is English.

To join the BCGS for a M. Sc. course (with a Bachelor's degree in physics or equivalent), students enroll at either the University of Bonn or Cologne. The choice is largely determined by individual research interests. Nevertheless, students may attend courses at either university and are encouraged to do so.

A limited number of scholarships are available on a competitive basis.

The MSc in Physics course allows students to specialize in two fields of interest. There is no dedicated MSc in Astrophysics, but Astrophysics is one of the areas students can specialize in. Further areas of specialization are quantum field theory,  nuclear physics, condensed matter physics experiment and theory, quantum information and statistical and biological physics.
